The two most profundity parts of your article:

How we return to our old comforts when adulthood disappoints us, or we feel we haven’t made the cut. The original Star Wars films and the Expanded Universe are absolutely my go-to, pure escapism. And Linkin Park are the epitome of the music I return to for that same reason. (Also Garbage, Evanescence, Hole, Nine Inch Nails… oh wait, there’s a theme!)

Our generation and the one immediately before it “not growing up” really distressed me too. There’s maintaining a sense of fun and then there’s just continuing to be mentally stuck as you in your worst teen moments.

I'm now also realizing this moment was spurred on by a conflict over running-jogging together and other lyrics include "Don't know what you're expecting of me. Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes" (cries) Man. The Circle of Life.

You'll (hopefully) like this, Stephen - I saw Prodigy live the other night (absolutely incredible), and the DJ on between the support act and theirs played some perhaps more unexpected remixed tunes. 'Numb' was one of them and it was the only song before Prodigy themselves came on that had the whole arena joining in. What a powerful song. (It was followed by Slipknot's 'Duality' which started up my corner's mosh pit scrum again with, as the Scots say, "laldy" (as in, 'gie it laldy/ go at it with gusto').

A profound insight to culture and parenting we all feel. Thanks for the reminder of how it’s the way of things to become the decentralized part of the next gens hero’s journey 😬😅

Thank you Nick! Folks gotta stand aside in the narrative and be ready to guide others.
