Good evening friends! A new week is about to begin. Are you ready for it? A huge number of you found your way to Geeky Stoics through comic cons, either in Fairfax, Atlanta, Richmond, Durham, or Raleigh. Just a week ago, the Geeky Stoics team got together for Fairfax Comicon and made this video just for you.
Star Wars is in a tough moment right now. You might have seen they’ve canceled The Acolyte series on Disney+. Whatever you thought of that show (we didn’t love it) Riley and I both felt convicted to recenter on why we love Star Wars at all. It’s always been divisive with fans. There’s always been ugliness, bullying, and disagreement about what Star Wars should be like. We grew up during the Prequel Era. Right now, fans need to take a moment to reconnect with the heart of these stories. The Force, if you will.
For us, Star Wars is best when you’re physically with a community of people who love it and find meaning in the galaxy far, far away. Not jousting in the comments section, not passively consuming commentary in your office chair, but talking to people face to face.
The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.
Your focus determines your reality. And if you’re a Star Wars, you can literally choose to focus on the best of Star Wars, not the worst. You can focus on the art of George Lucas, not the content of Disney+. You can choose to focus on how Star Wars teaches you valuable lessons about real life, rather than focus on hot takes from social media influencers.
Surround yourself with people and ideas that build you up and bring you joy. Life is too short for anger. And trust us, we get angry (a lot) about stuff going on with Star Wars. Then we choose to let it go.
Enjoy this video, a letter from us to you about what Geeky Stoics is all about.
Have a great week, and live better…mythically.
-Stephen & Riley
Look at you two nerds enjoying 'Phantom Menace'.
A serious offer: let me know if you need a volunteer or low-cost proofreader for the book.
