That 'freedom' as we generally understand it, probably seems really appealing to someone who has never known financial insecurity, emotional neglect, or any stretch of days where you have no work coming in and are worrying about what will come your way. An adult life without responsibility or structure sounds more appealing than it actually is. Not many of us are built for aimless wandering or lack of close relationships.
