Behind the scenes on Fixing The World
The book enters production & formatting! Almost ready for print. Sneak peek!
I told you I’d share updates on the release of How The Force Can Fix The World, so today I have an update I’m excited about. Up till this point, the book has been a Google Doc. Just one long essay. I’m old by Hachette Publishing that I have a “book deal” and it’ll be “on shelves” by Halloween…but sometimes that feels fictional and like an impossibility. Then I got an email today with work put in by the publisher, Center Street, on formatting the book. This is all a draft and they’d probably be peeved I sent this to you. But hey, that’s what newsletters are for!!! Here are some sneak peeks.
I commissioned original artwork from a guy I met on Instagram would pre-ordered the book. He told me he was excited. So I looked at his Insta and saw he’s an artist. I happened to be looking for an artist. So we talked. Now he’s going to be a published illustrator for a book from a mainstream publisher. That’s pretty cool honestly.
Chapters will begin a two-page black spread. Then have a deep indent to let the material breathe a bit. And open up like this. DISCLAIMER: All the copy here is mixed-up paragraphs between different chapters. Not direct excerpts. So it will make no sense to actually read.
The book has seven chapters + an introduction + Foreward + epilogue. I’ll be revealing who the authors of the Foreward are very soon. I’m also really thrilled to say I’ve collected a few endorsements for the book from big names. Those will appear on the outside jacket of the book. More on that in the weeks to come.
A lot of heart went into this book. It’s so wild to be at this point in the process. I’ll show you what the sketches for these pieces of artwork look like when completed vs in the conceptual stage.
I’m currently working hard on booking book launch parties and events. If you’d like one in your area and can help host it or get some people together, email me. Skentbm@gmail.com —-> I’d love to come out and will bring some books.
Also! If you’re following my new show with Al Jazeera on the Rightly network, we did an episode last week on Climate Change and the GOP’s incredibly slow move to reality on dealing with emissions. I talked to a Gen Z Republican leader named Benji Backer about conservative climate solutions. Check it out if you’re interested in that subject!
